Scott Pilgrim: A Girl Worth Fighting For?

I went to a really small middle school. There was about 75 kids. Over half were boys. Half of the girls weren't too attractive. There was like...maybe 5 attractive girls. I went through life thinking everywhere I went, there would be 5 attractive girls, and 5 very lucky guys who got the girls. You know, the heroes. The guys who took pictures of their abs to post on Myspace and had inside jokes with all the other guys who took pictures of their abs and posted it to their Myspace. I went to high school and had a culture shock. I could swim in all of the attractive girls that were my age. That's when I realized how superficial I was. To me, girls were a challenge, and every time I got close enough, it was like I would mentally press a "New Game" button in my head. It wasn't until someone deleted my saved file that I knew how it felt, and ultimately, stopped chasing girls.
But then, there's always that one girl. That girl that you only see, because you have no classes with her, and she's not in your social circle. And it's like "Woah!". To you, she's just the greatest thing in the world, and it doesn't matter if she's a total bitch, or a sap, or dare I say it, an avid Twilight reader. She's a girl that's worth fighting for. Fighting other guys with charm and wit as opposed to fists.
I might be able to relate to Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, but you don't have to to enjoy the movie. EVERYBODY has the capacity to enjoy this movie, but I feel like a lot of people choose not to. You can blame it on your age, or you can blame it on Michael Cera, but time and actors have nothing to do with you NOT enjoying this movie. And well, you're just gonna have to deal with it. Yes, I may be a teenager, yes I may be a boy and avid comic book and video game fan, and yes, I can relate to the main character. But I think anyone who's ever had a crush can. So STFU and read my review for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

By  now you've seen the totally awesome trailers for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. If you don't already know, the movie is based off of Bryan Lee O'Malley's comic book series, Scott Pilgrim.
I gotta say, Scott Pilgrim is easily one of the best movies of the year. And I saw InceptionInception blew away everything I thought made movies fantastic. Really, if movies were girls, Misa Campo would be Inception.

Yeah. You wish she'd break into your dreams.
But then, I read a few days after viewing that the movie bombed at the box office. Now I know that the all mighty "Box Office" that we speak of so highly, does not measure a movie's worth. Avatar broke records, and many people including myself hated it. Honestly, Tom Six's The Human Centipede was more original than Avatar.
Poor Scott didn't stand a chance against The Expendables. I personally haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm dieing to before it leaves theaters. Because if it can top the work of art that is Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World then I will definitely watch it and obsess over it.
Did Michael Cera doom the movie before it hit theaters? Maybe. I'll admit, he's a typecast. He plays the same character in every movie. But the casting crew made a good choice. Unlike Shymalan's latest piece of garbage, The Last Airbender, the characters from the original comic were nearly spot on. Scott was a meek, slacking, ass-kicking bass guitarist. Michael Cera was perfect for Scott. What makes it even better in my opinion, is the fact that he doesn't seem like he's acting, because that's just how Cera is. In his case, I like the fact that he's typecast, because I know what to expect, and I like what I see from him, because he does it well. If you think about it, Robert Downey Junior gets a certain type of character as well. Sometimes, there's a go-to guy who's good at what he does, and that's what people want to see.
Cera learned to play bass for the part. Rock on.

Alrighty, I'm just gonna go over a few of the main characters, and a few of my favorites. First off, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers. I think that she served her purpose as Ramona. She was edgy, she was hot, she was loving, and she had seven evil ex-boyfriends that want to choke Scott with his small intestines. Winstead is a good actress, I wish she would get some more work other than horror movies. I mean, she made me like Final Destination 3. And I hate the two preceding and the one proceding it. Beautiful, talented, witty, and she kicks ass. One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when she fights an ex of hers to protect Scott. Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers is win. Period.

Do you know a girl with hair like this?

Next, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau. Alright, so you guys know the Scottish Korean from the Starburst Commercials? Well, I heard this rumor recently that the Scottish Korean guy, is actually a white guy in makeup to appear Asian. Hilarious commercial, but still a bit racist. It's called yellow face, and it's nothing new to the world, and is just as offensive as black face, brown face, and blue face. Yes, Avatar, you too, are racist. That was a joke, don't kill me. Anyway, another movie with Asian characters is Memoirs of a Geisha. The geisha were Japanese. The main character of the movie was Chinese. I'm tired of people thinking that just "any old Asian will do". Hell, Shyamalan just said, "F*** the Asians" in The Last Airbender, and made clearly Asian characters like Aang and Prince Zuko white and Indian respectively. The hell man. Sorry, I flew off on a tangent. What I'm trying to say is, Knives Chau is a 17 year old Chinese catholic school girl. I expected nothing less than a Chinese woman to play the part. And I got me a Chinese woman. Scary and obsessive Knives is played by the beautiful Ellen Wong, Canadian-Chinese actress. She has experience with Tae-Kwon-Do, and it shows in her fight scene, which is also incredible. Really, 100% of the fights in this movie are incredible. She plays jealous well, and she plays young well too. Ellen Wong is win, as Knives Chau.

So I couldn't find a decent picture of Ellen Wong as Knives. Is this picture so bad? Yeah I didn't think so.

Alright, there are two stars in this movie that arn't really main characters. Kieran Culkin plays Wallace Wells, and Aubrey Plaza plays Julie Powers. These are two of the funniest characters in the entire movie. I'm not even going to give anything away, but honestly, these two deserve some kind of award. The whole movie could have been about Wallace and I would have watched it twice because I laughed everytime he came on the screen. Really, besides the action, amazing main characters, funny and quirky story, and awesome music by Scott's Band Sex Bob-Omb, see the movie for these two.

I wish I had a cool gay room mate.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is a great movie. You don't have to be a fan of the comics, or of video games, and really you don't even have to be young. It's a celebration of Music, Laughter, Love, and Epic Ass Kicking. I don't know why you're still reading, get up and buy a ticket to see Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World now.

Did you see that coming?

Hey there, this is the blog of the ever mysterious laptop musician Shinobi.
Why is a laptop muscician on Blogger? Cause I feel like it.
Is there a problem with that? No?
Good.
Anyway, thoughts run through my mind every single day about all sorts of stuff, mostly involving Pop Culture. So I'm going to throw a little bit of my brain out there every now and then. You don't have to read, if you don't want to, but I love to hear what my fellow human beings have to say about the scandals of the modern era.
